MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.(September 19, 2007) – The inaugural Thrivent Financial Dresser Dash, a benefit for Bridging, Inc., will be held at the corporate center of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans (625 Fourth Ave. So., Minneapolis) at noon on Monday, Oct. 29, 2007.
The Thrivent Financial Dresser Dash will consist of teams of four competing to assemble a pre-fabricated dresser kit as quickly as possible. Participants will only be able to use one hammer, one allen wrench and one screwdriver. The assembly team must stay within the confines of a 5’ x 8’ area at all times or lose points. The team completing the project first wins prizes including a
6-foot Subway Party Sub for their office.
A tax deductible donation of $140 per team (or $35 per individual) will go directly to Bridging, Inc., a Bloomington-based non-profit which helps people in transition turn their house into a home.
To register your team or for more information, contact Char Pfeiffer at 952-888-0745 or char@bridging.org.
Dressers are always in demand at Bridging. In 1998, volunteers started constructing dressers to meet the demand and have since built over 9,000. A Bridging dresser has $35 of material. Labor is donated by volunteers. Therefore, each team registration fee will cover four Bridging dressers to be distributed to a local family in need. All completed dressers and donations from the Thrivent Financial Dresser Dash will directly benefit Bridging families.
Wings of the North, an IRS 501(c)3 organization located on Flying Cloud Airport, is pleased to announce that it is hosting a Flying Cloud Airport Picnic on Saturday, October 13, 2007 from 11AM to 3PM. This event is open to the public and both admission and parking are free. Vintage aircraft will be on display both on the ramp and in the hangar and food will be available for purchase. Aircraft scheduled to appear include a P-51 Mustang, T-28 Trojan, Boeing Stearman bi-plane, and AT-6 Texans. Other aircraft may be on hand and some may make brief flights. This event will be held at ASI Jet Center, 14801 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN 55347.
Wings of the North (WOTN) traditionally holds a picnic in the fall for the volunteers who worked at the annual AirExpo event at Flying Cloud. Unfortunately, AirExpo 2007 was plagued by two days of rain and very few people had a chance to come out to the airport and view the airplanes. So the AirExpo directors decided to open the picnic up to the general public and not restrict it to just the volunteers.
WOTN’s mission is to preserve and present aviation history. They hope that the public who were not able to come to AirExpo 2007 will come to the Airport Picnic and meet the volunteers and learn about the group’s activities. In addition to the annual AirExpo, WOTN is in the process of completely restoring a World War II trainer aircraft, a BT-15, and returning it to flying status. In the past year they have also disassembled, moved, and reassembled a Korean War vintage F-86H Sabre, a jet fighter that now sits in the new Lakeville Veterans Memorial. They are also working with the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial committee in their efforts. They also assembled a complete Boeing Stearman bi-plane inside the Rotunda at Mall of America as part of AirExpo 2006. They are an active group of both aviation and history enthusiasts and are always looking for new volunteers to join them.
